They may actually get their source from a Finger Lake, another lake and/or reservoir. It may be a matter of if the source is fine and the industry. If anything, you don’t want to put all of the investment just in one industry.

The only thing missing from a fast Syracuse come back story are the billionaires investing in Syracuse.

It is hard to believe that there aren't any billionaires who grew up in the Syracuse area or went to Syracuse University that wouldn't have fun bringing Syracuse back to life.

Detroit would take decades to fully revitalize because it was so huge in size and population. Syracuse NY is only 25 square miles and a couple billionaires could revitalize every street in Syracuse within five years.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/were-...151510126.html

Gilbert's latest venture, Hudson's Detroit, will open next year. It will include an office building next to a 49-story skyscraper filled with shops, restaurants, a hotel and apartments.

While cities like Los Angeles and Chicago struggle with empty offices and slow recoveries post-pandemic, Detroit is seeing significant improvements, according to Bloomberg. Its resurgence is largely thanks to a small group of billionaires. Dan Gilbert, the Ford family of Ford Motor Co., and the Ilitch family, known for their Little Caesars pizza chain, have collectively invested billions into the city. They or their companies own about 70% of the downtown office space.

But no one has changed downtown Detroit more than Dan Gilbert. With a fortune of about $29.3 billion, he began his mission to revitalize Detroit in 2007.

To be honest, Syracuse doesn’t necessarily need a billionaire and due to its smaller size and lesser decline, it wouldn’t take as much to revitalize the areas of town that need it. Look up the Allyn Foundation as an example of wealthy people investing in the city: https://allynfoundation.org/

To be fair, it isn’t like either city lacks things to do or things that people can get involved in.

Keep in mind that Detroit is a city of about 600-650,000 and a metro of about 4 million. So, it is a bit different in comparison to Syracuse, as each city/area will have their own needs to address.

Other billionaires better get to work on Syracuse before I become a billionaire if the insular locals don't like new development out of character with their neighborhoods.

If I was a multi billionaire I'd tear down all old ugly houses in the city that are in despair. Which is like half the city.

Then build new buildings in each neighborhood with a different theme.

For example, I'd make one neighborhood look like Prague. One neighborhood like Berlin. One neighborhood like Seattle. One neighborhood like Milan. One neighborhood look like Montreal. One neighborhood like Toronto.

That way Syracuse could look beautiful, be walkable and have a different vibe in every neighborhood.

That would silence everyone who thinks Syracuse is a depressing, ugly ****hole.

Then Syracuse can have respect, be a happy place to live and attract & retain top talent.

Then I can be proud to be from a beautiful city where people enjoy living.

You have to think of happy for who and if the board would even approve the development, among other things to consider.

Again, if anything, Syracuse needs reasonable infill and while some properties need to be torn down, others just need to be brought back to life.

Also, what areas of the city are you referring to for development? What would your plan look like, as those cities also vary in terms of neighborhoods?

My thoughts of my ideal Syracuse don't match the reality of today.

Where there is a will there is a way. Somehow it can manifest. City leadership changes with time so do those who approve changes in the city, so do the people living there. With enough immigrants and enough anti change people moving away, Syracuse can grow into a beautiful city with amazing architecture. The mindset of consciousness of the vast majority of city residents has to drastically change if they want to live in a thriving community with safe neighborhoods, good schools and local pride that goes with living in a desirable place.

I'm not going to pick out all the neighborhoods to tear down but I would start around the baseball stadium.

Again, something to consider are zoning laws. You also have to consider what one considers to be beautiful architecture, another would see as ordinary or not much different from what is taking place now.

How would you go about doing what you mentioned? Let’s just say around the Baseball Stadium and in turn, how would it fit the actual title of the thread?

A key part is how would your plan actually benefit those that are here and aren’t planning on going anywhere?

With those questions asked, to address the actual topic, real investment in terms of infrastructure, employment and transportation will have to be addressed. For instance, with the transportation piece, back when New Venture Gear was around, there was a CENTRO run that would go from the facility to Auburn multiple times a day, as NV/Process Gear actually start or had a facility in Auburn and many were able to take the transportation available when the jobs were moved to the East Syracuse facility. So, that could be used as an example of a way to get people from across town/the county to Micron or points in between, in the future. That is something that would seem to be more tangible in terms of the general topic.

Another is upgrading water infrastructure to eliminate/reduce water main breaks, which can occur due to older water pipe infrastructure.

Another could be to create empowerment zones for certain communities that need it, in order to help increase small business development.

I think those are some of the things people think of in terms of the actual topic.

The ground floor of the 5+ story apartments and condos would be shops, restaurants, bars and other types of commercial space.

I'd leave space for office buildings for jobs and businesses.

Nearly everyone would love the new neighborhoods just like most people visiting Vienna, Prague and Paris fall in love with them due to the vibe, walkability and architecture.

Some thoughts I have on this...

Syracuse won't go through any serious improvements because the weather is not ideal for most people. That is a good thing for most of us, because we don't want things to ever get too expensive. SU will always be our "bread and butter", and that is where we can look to revitalize the community first, because that area could use some help, and there is a large educated population, with not tons of crime. Although, I hear it is getting worse in recent years. JMA Dome is a great draw as well.

As for investments, etc. There is not such thing as a self-made mega millions/billions person. ALL of them had help from the banks. And the banks have better investments to make than in CNY, except for Skaneateles, where the pure water is a national treasure.

A lot the new apartments being built around the city have a retail/commercial space on the ground floor. An example: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0469...5410&entry=ttu
