Since the southern tier of New York doesn't have its own thread I am posting this question here since the Syracuse area is so close. I graduated in December with my masters in teaching. I am certified in Social Studies. I know teaching jobs in New York State are extremely hard to come by, especially for subjects like Social Studies. However, I am remaining optimistic about getting a job in New York State..specifically my hometown area. My question is, when do schools really start posting open positions if they have them? I have been searching every day on OLAS and individual school websites since January and have only seen a handful of openings. Does it start to pick up March, April, and May? Thanks!

I think that it depends on the school district and if there are teachers winding down their careers. I saw a few openings in the Capital District and about 6 or so in the Mid/Lower Hudson Valley. It may be a matter of seeing what the end of the school year brings in terms of more positions opening up.
A little too early, I'd said. Give it late spring, and summer. Believe it or not....I've seen postings as late as Aug. 30th (no lie)
Good Luck to you!!!!
Sometimes, teachers wait until even July or August to retire.
