I just moved to St. Louis from Chicago. I live right downtown at 10th and Washington. In Chicago I felt like at most bars I went to, I was surrounded by young professionals. Here it seems like I've been running into a lot of callege aged people and pubs. Mostly I have been loving St. Louis, but I haven't found any fun bars to hang out at where the crowd is a little more sophisticated. It's my 24th birthday this weekend and my friends are coming in town, and I want to go somewhere really fun where we can dress up and meet people who are more like me. Any ideas??

People have suggested Mandarin and Subzero?? I heard Mandarin is rather pricey and stuck up. I'm completely welcome to ideas! Thanks for helpng out a new STLer...

Cafe Eau in the Chase Park Plaza, Bar Louie (CWE), Lola (downtown), 33 Wine Bar (Lafayette Square), Subzero is definitely a good choice.

Pretty surprised to hear you running into a lot of college kids down on Washington. On the Landing, yes that is a college kid magnet, but Washington? That's strange.

I'd say anywhere in the CWE and Clayton like Moorlander suggested is going to have more yuppies than college kids. Lafayette Square and Soulard/Benton Park tend to be hugely popular with the professional crowd. Places to check out here are Llywelyns, Mcgurks, Venice Cafe, Baileys Chocolate Bar, Sqwires, Square One, Old Rock House and Mollys. Some good south city spots would be the Royale, Atomic Cowboy, Tower Pub, Absoluti Goosed, and the Famous Bar.

I'm 24 and am about the median age or younger when I go to most of these places (except maybe Mcgurks on a friday or saturday...)

Sophisticated? Drinking overpriced drinks and hanging out at "hip" bars full of 24 year olds? That's supposed to be sophisticated? Oh yeah, that's what we call culture in this country. Drinking and hooking up. What is the definition of hip anyways?

Why don't you take them to an intellectual conference at Washington U, or a concert of some kind. Afterwards you can have sophisticated discussions at a wine bar?

Hip and trendy...hip and trendy...hip and trendy, young professionals...

The blood Orange Martini and Bloody Mary are to DIE for at SubZero!

I also second Absolutli Goosed, The Royale, Bleeding Deacon, Venice Cafe, and Square One. We also frequent Sasha's and Jimmy's on the Park, though we are big wine drinkers.
