A month late, I know.

It’s not MLS, but St. Louis gets an outdoor men’s pro soccer team | Free Kicks | STLtoday (http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/free-kicks/free-kicks/2009/11/its-not-mls-but-st-louis-gets-an-outdoor-mens-pro-soccer-team/ - broken link)

Home (http://www.ac-stlouis.com/AC_St._Louis/Home.html - broken link)

The video above (may need Internet Explorer to watch it) is nice. I love the logo.

the USL is still an entertaining game. A lot like AAA Minor league Baseball.

I used to watch the old LA Salsa when the USL was still called the APSL.

Not much of a soccer fan but I hear St. Louis is suppose to be the soccer capital of the usa so that's great. But why didn't they get an MLS team if that's the case?

Self Appointed Soccer Capital

I'm sure the fans here are great but I would hardly consider St. Louis the nation's soccer capital.

Those honors would probably go to North Jersey or the Greater LA area, which not only has 2 MLS teams, but also is part of one the nations premier youth Club programs.

Then there is Seattle which turned this season MLS Cup into a near Super Bowl-sized event.

StL has/had that moniker due to its heavy influence and activities in/around the city years [ie: decades] ago. Its still very popular here, but indeed other cities/areas have eclipsed the Gateway City, as DP (again) points out... Seriously, most of this BS is nothing but perception, marketing, and fun - just like Fort Payne, AL at one time was the "sock capital".

Just as Minnesota is the hockey state but went without a professional team for many years, when their is a lot of good amateur sport to watch, it makes it hard to bring in a professional team. St. Louis has had several professional teams over the years, but they struggle here just as anywhere.

The following website has the history of soccer in St. Louis and notable players. Up until the 60s, we were the premier soccer city, but that has changed significantly since then. While we still maintain a large amateur following, we have not had a lot of success at the top level.

The article says they would probably play at the A-B Center in Fenton. What happened to the soccer specific stadium they were building in Collinswood (?), IL?

Highly doubt they need a stadium for this league.

Depends on the team. Montreal draws huge crowds, sometimes 15,000+ So does Vancouver and Portland but I asked the question because I thought the stadium was already built and established for the team so why are they playing elsewhere?

I'm not in St. Louis...yet so not up-to-date with what is going on.
