A friend wants me to move to St. Louis which I am willing to do. However, she seems not knowledgeable about finding nice apartments. I know you can't recommended particular complexes but perhaps you could suggest certain areas. I need to be near public transportation, within walking distance of a grocery and drug store. I need a quiet area and, hopefully a nice book store as I do a lot of reading. I no longer get out much. I just want a place that is well-cared for, clean and quiet. My friend lives in Crestwood but we've had no luck there. She has checked Kirkwood (where I'd really like to be) but no luck there either. The only two nice ones seem to be miles from anywhere. One would definitly need a car. I do not drive - which should make everyone on the highways happy.

Thanks for any ideas.

Central West End is nice and seems to have a lot of apartment buildings, but it may be too fast-paced for you. I'm not sure if you want the city or not, but I believe the Central West End has MetroLink.

South St. Louis, by the way, has buses but not MetroLink service.

If you still want a suburb with public transportation, there's Clayton, but it's pricey.

What's your budget?

Thank you. I can handle a fair price. Not one of those $2,000/month ones but I'm paying almost $800 now comfortably. St. Louis is probably more expensive than the KC area but you can get a fairly nice apartment in KC for that price.

I have been to Clayton long ago. We could look there. I am not sure what you mean by "Central West End" but my friend might know.

Central West End is a city neighborhood that's very walkable, but I suspect it's too lively for your tastes.

I think STLCardsBlues is right to suggest places along the metrolink. The bus service is good, but the metro makes it easier to get around. The again, I guess you are used to the bus since you don't drive in KC right?

I would get on Metro's Website: MetroLink Station List (http://www.metrostlouis.org/MetroLink/stationlist.asp - broken link) and look at their google map of all the metro stops and try to find a place near one. I would suggest anythig along the Shrewsbury line from the city like

Shrewsbury - Lansdowne I-44 Station
7201 Lansdowne Ave.
St. Louis, MO 63119

Sunnen Station
21 Sunnen Dr.
St Louis, MO 63143

Maplewood-Manchester Station
7911 Manchester Rd
St Louis, MO 63143

Brentwood I-64 Station
8398 Eager Rd
St Louis, MO 63144

Richmond Heights Station
8001 Galleria Pkwy
St Louis, MO 63117

Clayton Station
275 S Central Ave
St Louis, MO 63105

Forsyth Station
7411 Forsyth Blvd
St Louis, MO 63105

University City - Big Bend Station
7000 Forest Park Pkwy
St Louis, MO 63130

Skinker Station
260 N Skinker Blvd
St Louis, MO 63130

Craigslist is a great source for apartments in St. Louis. Give me a while to look though and I'll post some examples of places that would work well for you.

This place looks perfect: 1&2 Bedrooms Available, Huge 2 Bed/2 Bath Floorplans, Complete Remodel (http://stlouis.craigslist.org/apa/833277997.html - broken link)

Across the street from the Shrewsbury stop. It's a quiet area, but there's a Shop 'N Save and Dierberg's (which both have pharmacy's) about a half mile away and a Schnucks and Target within 1.5 miles. Also plenty of restaurants and fast good along Chippewa.

Thanks. I'll send this to my friend since she lives over there. I'll also check the internet. Walking doesn't bother me. I've always enjoyed walking. Just want it to be safe and clean.
