Architecture? You realize one of the points people make to say St. Louis is more Northern is the architecture? People say it reminds them of the Northeast in that manner.
History? You know STL was against the Confederacy whereas the rest of the state was more Southern sympathizing?
Minority populations...this can be said of most Northern cities thanks to the Great Migration. Heck, Chicago's Blacks are hard to distinguish from Deep South Blacks when it comes to culture, especially those from the West Side. Honestly outside of NYC and Boston and possibly Philly to an extent, most Northern Black populations did originate in the South. That doesn't make a city Southern despite what people think.
There's a confederate memorial in St. Louis.

Then why are you saying St. Louis was against the confederacy? It's known the city was politically divided during the civil war with both sides eventually clashing.

St. Louis was pro-Union enough that the Missouri government feared they were going to be overthrown by St. Louis. That's why the city lost control of its police force to the state.

If Louisville is 60% southern, maybe STL is 40%. STL has lots of southern vibes to it, not only in food, architecture ,and history, but especially in minority culture which is very similar to Mississippi delta culture.
LOL please stop. Architecture? Not at all. History? Pre-Civil War but that's about it. Food? I'll give barbeque is an influence there. St. Louis isn't anywhere close to 40%. Maybe 20% at best. Minority culture here isn't very similar to Mississippi Delta culture at all. Louisville is more than part Southern...it is overall Southern. St. Louis isn't anywhere near as Southern as Louisville plain and simple. Louisville and St. Louis are NOT peer cities. Quit using Midwestern cities to make Louisville seem less Southern. It really doesn't work. You're the only one out there claiming Louisville is part of the Midwest.

St. Louis sent many more troops to the Union than to the Confederacy. Not even close to a divide.

I believe northern IL held confederate prisoners though. Different than St. Louis, and Missouri of course that actually sent men to fight for the stars and bars. I think about 4000 men from St. Louis area fought on the MO state guard, Confederate side. Also there was an Irish Confederate brigade with men from the St. Louis area in it.

No, I'm not saying that makes St. Louis southern now LOL but just pointing out the historical context of a Confederate memorial in Forest Park makes sense due to Missouri being a split state claimed by both sides. IL does not have the same distinction, Missouri is the only state in the Midwest to have that historical claim.

20 percent is a little generous too I think. I say more like 10-15 percent at the most. Not very southern in Modern time, but as others on here mention there is still some traces of it left though that will probably never go away. have to go about 30 miles south of St. Louis to really start seeing the south/transition zone elements pick up more.

Louisville is southern but has Midwest influence in it. It's certainly not as southern as Paducah though. The Missouri Bootheel is more southern than Louisville, but the Bootheel has no Midwest influence and has more in common with the mid and deep south than the upper south. A guy I work with is from Dunklin County and has the delta style accent, pure southern. Louisville is the far reaches of the upper south.

Just like Branson Missouri is southern but in the Ozarks and upper south kind of way which differs from the deep south.
