In the 90s e'erybody wanted carpet in their living rooms. A lot of the ones I've been in in Whitmoor do have hardwoods.

^And if the OP wanted a small home on a small lot with at most a two-car garage that's what I'd be recommending too.

I was doing another quick search, and there are TONS of homes out there on the market that will incorporate many of the desirable attributes, large home, 4+ beds, 3+ baths, 3 car garage, decent sized lot, etc...The biggest issue will likely be common architecture for St. Louis, especially on newer and more modern construction. The Atrium Ranch was hugely popularly during the mid 90's, and 2 story entrance ways, or great rooms were also very very popular, not to mention siding of various types, and costs...These things are going to be very popular on most of the homes that the OP is looking at, but a search done a few minutes ago still netted hundreds of results throughout St. Louis County...as far in as Frontenac, and as far out as Wentzville.

Take a look at these:

Nice Victorian

Cool Midcentury (Minus the wallpaper)

Very cute Webster Home...and garage space to make me envious!!!
