I am a single Mom and considering moving to New Town. My Son is in 3rd grade and he is in excellent schools where we are now in Edwardsville, IL .
I want to get closer to things in general and I am from St. Charles originally so it is ultimately where I want to raise my Son.

Can anyone tell me what they think about New Town's current status? I know Whittaker filed bankruptcy but I am wondering how that has or will affect NT moving forward.

Can anyone tell me what they think of living in New Town if you currently live there?

Also, if we make this move I am wondering if Orchard Farm School is good and up to speed compared to where we are now. Does anyone have any experience with this school they can share?

Thanks!

You should do a search of this forum as there have been a couple of threads about New Town.

My summary would be that it's a little creepy and the commercial is still relatively empty, but given how much they've dropped the prices (as they were once wildly overpriced) it's worth consideration if you're looking to move to St. Charles and are interested in new urbanism projects.

I know Orchard Farm isn't as well respected as some of the other St. Charles county school districts, but I don't know enough about it to say much more. Greatschools.net is a good source for test results and demographics.

Flooding would also be something that any of us who lived through '93 would have concerns about -- no matter how many times they say it's fine.

Thumbs down The town

The town is dying at this point. Housing values have fallen drastically, shops are empty, the gaslights have been turned off to save money, the once lively community festivals are very few as compared to only two years ago and the place is simply falling apart. There is an attitude of intollerance toward teenagers to the point that the beautiful docks on the largest lake have been removed to avoid teenager's congregating. As businesses continue to fail and more of the town is an empty shell it truly feels like and looks like an old movie set. The big dream just didn't materialize. The Whittiker vision has been replaced by a bank owned entity that does not care what becomes of the place as long as they sell the houses (which are built so shabbily they are falling apart.) I would not buy there. If I were to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 2.

^That was always my fear about the place, but am very sad to hear that nonetheless.
