I was sitting at my desk today discussing sports among a group of people, of course the question came...Who are your teams...Well Philly, philly everything actually, but more so Flyers then the other sports. I got a disgusting look and everyone told me i was a pig and that we are the rudest, loudest, most obnoxious fans of all time. I laughed and i said...I know, i love it!
Why does everyone hate that we have so much heart!
I don't think we're the rudest...I'm going to have to go with Dodger fans as the rudest. I think our reputation from the past has just carried on to today. The Flyers of the 70's were known as the Broad Street bullies. Then there's the whole booing, throwing snowballs at Santa Claus issue. Plus, we had a jail at the Vet for the Eagles games. The rest of the country lumps us all together when it was only a few idiots causing the problems. It's hard to explain to people who aren't from our area. I think we have the biggest hearts of all fans and we demand that our players on any of our teams have heart. It's important to us that they play with heart. I'm proud to be a Philly sports fan and it's never easy!
It was so sweet to see the 2002 Buccaneers whip the Eaglets in the last game at the vet. Bucs go on to become SB Champs.
The Lightning step on the Flyers and go on to win the Stanely Cup.
The heartbreaker was the Phillies beating the Rays last WS......that hurt. They ought to run the Phillies out of their spring training home in Clearwater and make em go to Arizona.

Well a lot of hate for Philly teams...but you didn't answer the OP's question.
My first impression of the fans in Philly was from back in the 1960's, when they mercilessly booed Richie Allen. Now maybe Richie was a big enough jerk to deserve it, I don't know, but I just couldn't understand the antipathy at the time.

Because Philly Fans are ungrateful and will only support you as long as you are winning. When you are losing they bail on you and call you names. So yes Philly fans are the worst

I was hurt and shocked because the Phillies had no competition in the NL playoffs, Brewers and Dodgers so I just knew the Rays would beat them either 4-0 or 4-1 after beating the Red Sox

It's not the heart they take issue with, it's when you wear an opposing teams jersey at any sporting event in Philly (Baseball, Football, Hockety etc) and get beer tossed on you or threats of violence. That's without saying a word or provoking them, just walking to your seat. Then you have the fans who cheer when an opposing teams athlete gets injured. That stuff is not sportsmanship, and often those tasteless acts are committed by slobs who never played the game or were never good enough to compete. Foaming at the mouth classless toolbags. Every city has them, but Philly just seems to have a higher percentage.

No way!
The misconception about Philly is bogus!
If Philly fan's do anything wrong it's long lasting.
That's why I'm so Happy the beer tossing event happen outside of Philly.
