Overall, the whole career achievement thing, I think Wawrinka is in the same league as Murray.
If there is a grand slam next month and I have to name four players most likely to win, I would say it's Djokovic, Wawrinka, Murray and Del Potrol.
Wawrinka is not in the same league as Murray.
He shows up once a year at a Slam in beast mode, as Stanimal, and then does nothing else for that year.
They both have 3 Slams, but Murray's resume is much better with Masters, Olympics etc.
Yes, he is, just like Djokovic is in the same league as Nadal and Federer. Do individuals in the same league have the exact number of titles? No, but they have similar level of achievement.
This game is ALL about performance at the slams. They're the marquee events that EVERY player on tour tries to prime themselves for.
And there are NO bigger matches than slam finals.
Stan is a perfect 3 for 3 in those finals, while Murray is a less-than-stellar 3 for 11.
In addition, Stan only needs Wimbledon to complete the career slam. Murray has never won the AO or RG.
Stan is clearly a clutch performer when the stakes are HIGHEST.
Murray is an underachiever in the biggest matches...
Careers are defined by Slams, not denying that, but the tiebreakers here go to Murray.
Just like comparing Sampras to Nadal, both 14 Slams, but Sampras has 2x YE#1s and weeks at Number 1.
And Stan won't win Wimbledon, this is his least favored surface as he needs time to wind up his big shots.
Murray is a better shot at winning both the AO and RG imo.
Stan is a big match player, and as a Djoker fan (as well as Murray) , he has gatecrashed the party and good luck to him.
Just like Djoker gatecrashed the Fedal duopoly, we all need somebody to take on the established order, and create these new tennis rivalries.
