There are two types of sport. Those that are real sports that people play and those that are TV shows.

For Americans, Football and Baseball are rarely played outside of organized school games. Take away the organized High school, college and pro ranks and these games would die. These sports base their popularity and that fact that they are TV shows; just like the golden girls or Oprah Winfrey. The games have loads of breaks for commercials. tons of mindless stats to engage comatose couch potatoes and presenters tell everyone what is happening to maintain the attention of the short attention span fans. Of course some sports that people actually play like basketball that are TV shows also so there certainly can be crossover between the two types.

You can see that other sports that are are watched but not played like horse racing or boxing have floundered in the TV era. The problem with sports like Horse racing or is that they are not good TV shows. Horse racing takes 4 hours to complete a days races and there is only 2 minutes of action every half hour. This is why what was once the most popular American sport- horse racing -has floundered in the TV era. It is a terrible TV show and only old-man gamblers or horse lovers can stand it.

The other type of sport is people sports. These are sports that are actually played among people. These are the real sports. Playing them adds fitness and joy into peoples lives. Here in New York the most popular sport is one-wall handball, since it is not a popular TV show it is sport few have heard of. Other sports people play may be racquetball, tennis, softball, basketball or vollyball.

How many people play beer league softball, which is a form of baseball. There are plenty of mens leagues too. Ive played more catch, and variations of games we invented with a glove and ball that I can begin to count. Horse racing is fading because it is viewed as antiquated and cruel.

I thought this was going to be a rant about shows like PTI and ATH. I was expecting to see TVSG in here, with his head exploded.

I guess this settles it. Golf and Hand Ball are real sports while hockey and football are not. Who'd have thought it.
