I would suggest posting this in the NJ forum closest to you or to the New York City forum as there will be more responses there. Also look up the autism group on babycenter and ask there.

hope I am not too late in responding. I havent visited this forum in a while so could not get to it earlier. I used to live in Montville (2013 to 2016) and the town's school board was very good when it came to special needs services for my HFA son in elementary schools. Never ran into any issues with asking for services. Always got what i had expected. Montville is right on I-80 (NYC through George washington bridge) and 10 mins away from Route 3 (goes to Midtown though Lincolon tunnel) and also commuter buses (private) going to NYC. Towaco also has a commuter train (NJTransit). Montville has excellent Parks and Recreation department that runs other activities (soccer, karate, chess, robotic lego something) etc..Pricey and if i am not wrong just one apartment community at the south end in Pine brook.

As I understand most of NJ schools provide good special need services if you can withstand the high cost of living.

Look into Ridgewood, NJ in Bergen County. Besides the schools, they also have a train that runs into Manhattan. Generally speaking, most upper middle class NJ towns should work out for you. You might want to call a district first and speak to someone in their special services department. If you get a cold shoulder, stay away.
