Best metros in Dakotas/Montana? (Rapid City: college, living, military)

What are the best "metro areas" in the tri-state area (perhaps WY as well) that offer the mix of services (ie, big enough) as well as charm and appealing living?

I don't think we can even spell Metro in Wyoming, don't have anything big enough.

Cheyenne is the largest at about 53,000 give or take.
Casper has about 44,000 give or take.

And there is not another town in the state that is over 20,000 that I know of.
Laramie might make it during the fall and winter due to the college, but not normally that large.

I'll hold my tongue on both Cheyenne and Casper being appealing. I've never lived in either, on stopped overnight while driving through.

HI AJ, we don't really have metro areas in SD either. We do have small towns that are near larger cities, but they aren't connected or considered metro. In other words, you may have to drive 5 miles out in the country to get to the outskirts of the city. If you could specify the larger city you're looking at, we could tell what what towns are near it.

Just a quick one here-I lived in Rapid City for 3 years (while in Military). It is a wonderful place-loved it there. Have been to Casper Wyoming several times. From what I saw there and have heard about the place--not very appealing. Wyoming and Western South Dakota both are beautiful. Don't know a lot about Montana, but wish I could live in Rapid. Not a lot of jobs there however.
