Instead of cutting income taxes that only gives back a $100 per person why not use the surplus money to fix the god awful roads in this state? Nobody is gonna care of even notice if they get back $100 or not.
Because "low taxes" is the only thing that matters come election time. That's why we have so many "fees", which are just taxes by another name. If SC had ever dared to do the prudent thing, our infrastructure would not be the nightmare it currently is.
Seems out of touch to advocate raising the gas tax when gas prices are 4 dollars a gallon and probably going to go higher due to 'climate change' based energy policy.
Maryland, Georgia, and Connecticut have temporarily suspended their gas tax.
A while back someone on here said that all the gas tax money was sitting in an account waiting to be used to fix roads, but that they couldn't spend it either because of covid, or, later, due to worker shortages.
Why is fixing a section of highway a 10-year plan? Man... WalMart can throw up a Super Center in an hour.. meanwhile we'll have 4 Buc-ee's before I-85 in Gaffney is "finished".

You’re preaching to the choir. SCDOT thinks they’re orchestrating a voyage to the cosmos anytime there’s a project involving more than repaving/resurfacing a road.
As for the OP, I agree. With the way SC is growing money for maintenance (which wasn’t enough to begin with) needs to be increased. And with the rapid growth… I wish they could have a vote or something on it. I’d happily give my share to SCDOT to fund road work (despite the fact it will take a lifetime to complete).

Makes more sense from an economic perspective as well, not sure on the exact numbers of course but $100 back to every tax payer in the state (around 2.3mil of them) is an extra 230mil per year for roads. Which.... honestly isn't that much which sort of ruins my thoughts but still.
Edit: Hmm actually ya the budget for 2018/19 was 2.4 billion so this would be a solid 10% increase, and that's on top of the SCDOT running a budget surplus.

Because we can't trust our government to even spend the money correctly that they are stealing from us on the gas tax! Sure a few token projects have been done, only so they can't point that out and say "see what we did with all that money you gave us? Please pat us on the back citizens."
