I'm considering moving to Issaquah from Utah. We are a little concerned about the rainy weather. Are we going to be depressed because of the change to cloudiness?

What are some fun outdoor things to do there?

We currently enjoy skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and camping.

Thank you!

I've done all four of those activities over the last 25 years. Each is within 30-45 minutes of Issaquah. Embrace the weather and you will enjoy living here.

The Issaquah area is truly great for hiking. There are three mini mountains ( foothills of the Cascades) with all kinds of trails. Cougar Mountain is huge, and Squak mountain and Tiger mountain are also nice places to hike. People also hike on the Issaquah Creek trail. But Issaquah also has shopping and theatres.

Must tell you: when I moved to WA, I was suprised how much the wet/cloudy aspect had been exaggerated. It's actually quite sunny quite often, we had not had a drop of rain almost the whole summer of 2009. It was sunny and hot.

It rains just as much in cities like Vancouver, BC and London but people love living in those cities but when it comes to Seattle rain there seem to be more complaints for some reason.

Default need safe and quiet apartment/townhouse in Issaquah

I will add my request for info on moving to Issaquah. I am over fifty and need a quiet and safe place to rent. I start my job in a few days and the rating and reviews on apartments in the area are such a turn off (Gilman Getto ect.)
Could you give me the scoop on best apartments to look at in the Issaquah area. Job is in Issaquah.
Thanks so much and Happy 2011

We rented for 3 years at The Highlands at Wynhaven in the Issaquah Highlands. We had no problems there.

Issaquah has an older downtown area (Gilman/Front) and some hilly areas
toward Squak Mountain, plus the far more rural and upscale Highlands, which is on the south end of the Sammamish Plateau.

As for the weather, we get less rainfall annually than many other areas (40")
but the problem is it stretches out over 9-10 months. Mostly very light, misty rain and cloudy skies. For me it just makes the summer that much better, and you have to pay for all the green. I'd rather have the rain than dry brown hills with one or two trees here and there. I agree with tobester, all of your activites are close at hand, most within 5-10 minutes, only the snow is farther and that's still just 35 minutes up the freeway. You also have Costco,
and all the usual big box stores, plus a great summertime farmer's market.
