I've been looking at the want ads for the past year in the Seattle area, and the three types of jobs that consistently come up are in accounting, IT, and nursing/medical. Looks like a fairly strong market for accountants. At least we're hoping so, since my wife is an accountant!

I got my current job through Robert Half, and they check in with me semi-frequently. From the account manager I speak to the market is still flooded with candidates, and not enough jobs. Might want to contact some Seattle resources before you move here with information from the mis-information board. Good luck in your search!

^^ The more people you talk to, the better. No question. My wife has checked in with Robert Half, and the recruiter she spoke with seemed confident that he could get her a job when she got to town. She has lots of experience ... and I don't know if things would be different for someone with only a few years under his or her belt. But definitely worth checking out.

Robert Half is pretty good what they do, and I think a good way to enter the market if they can find you something. I've used them twice now with good results, especially the first time when I moved here. Seattle companies often will hire local talent with local experience first, not always by any means with some recruiting nationally and internationally, but that's what I've seen the 10 years I've been here.

ggh7, I see you asked this question in Austin TX forum as well and I posted a more lenghty answer there. I am a CPA (self-employed from home...also a mom) but when I hired in previous positions while living in Austin, I often went through Robert Half/Accountemps. In Seattle you can also try the recruiting wing of RSM McGladrey. They seem to get some good posts and have called me about a few jobs. Good luck.

GGH7-

Our company uses Accountemps all the time. Almost everyone in our accounting department was a temp to hire, and many of them are from other countries or other states, so I don't think that will be a big obstacle if you're a good accountant.

From what I understand, Accountemps keeps their people working pretty steadily.
