I am a 24yr old student who will be graduating in one yr. and my wife and I are tryingto find the best place for us to live and raise children. RIght now we live in the great red state of Texas and I would really love to be in a place where its laid back and the wheather is nice. I have been to seattle twice and I love it, I was wondering if it was a great place to live and if they are gay friendly?

Thanks
V

I great up near Seattle and grew up with a very open mind...I feel like it was ingrained in the community. I knew lots of same sex couples and I never noticed any troubles for them. You cant take my word 100% for it because I am not gay so I dont have first hand experience. But living in Texas now also, I know how different and less open minded people tend to be. I have a very good friend who is in a same sex relationship and, even though she never complains, it seems really hard to live here in Texas. But it seems so odd to me...so anyways, I think the Pacific Northwest is a gay friendly place but I am sure more people with first hand experience can chime in

I'm a transplant from the red state of Georgia. I'm not gay, but have plenty of gay friends. All of my gay friends tell me that they feel that Seattle is very gay friendly (and one gay couple that I know has two children and they love it here).

As for the weather, well, I've been here for ten years and still have not become fully acclimated to this place. There is no clear definition between the seasons sometimes. My experience has shown me winters that seem to last forever with their gray skies and constant drizzle, while other years have seen long dry periods with mild temps. You really have to be ready for any kind of weather conditions here and I have found myself glad that I brought a light jacket along even during the summer.

Seattle is extremely gay friendly. I am not sure I'd call the weather nice and as far as laid back goes, it depends on your definition. I personally found many people there to be really uptight in the sense that because stoicism is really valued there, prevailing mores inhibited people from letting loose. Consequently, some people seemed ready to burst. Of course, this is just my perception after 18 years and as a middle aged person.

What part of TX are you in? We live in Austin and find there to be a much more laid back culture here than up there.

Jennibc said it perfectly! Seattle is a very laid back environment and especially when they have the gay pride parade...it's awesome and fun! Where were you looking to live in Seattle? Any specific areas? But overall Seattle is very gay-friendly.

Seattle is very LBGT friendly. The young ones live in Capital Hill and I find personally that most of my LBGT friends who have young ones tend to move to West Seattle,Beacon Hill or in the CD. (That's just my friends and very dependent on what house they can afford)

Overall the city is friendly...now the weather is another story....

West Seattle - filled with lesbian families. Talking about bars, restaurants, out and proud, holding hands, moms pushing baby strollers etc. Great network and a beautiful place to live.

I wouldn't even say you have to find a specific part of Seattle for lesbian couples, it's Seattle, everyone is truly welcome. That's been my experience, and unless you just feel compelled to live near other gay couples, you can pretty much live anywhere, which is nice.

Enjoy!
