Hi,

we are a young family. I am german my husband is american and we have 2 kids, 3 and 6 months old. Our plan is to move to Seattle next year. But I have no idea where to look for houses, it drives me crazy. This is what we are looking for. My husband will work in Shoreline. I really what love to live in a neighborhood that offers a lot of acitvities, maybe also in walking distance. If someone has been in europe or germany you know, everything is very close, walk to the park, in the city or in the woods. Where we live right now, it is perfect. We have home across the woods, 3 minutes to the park and 5 minutes downtown. I know this is hard to find )
Can anyone recommend good areas?? Really good schools (maybe a german one). We first want to rent a house and it should not cost more than 1.900 $ per month.

I would be so thankfull for answeres and help )

Do you know where in Shoreline your husband will be working? That will help when picking a neighborhood within walking distance.

To find German schools you can go to maps.google.com, set the map on Shorline WA and enter "German schools" in the search field. Below is a link of a school near the University of Washington (UW).

I would use a search engine like apartments.com to check out what is around Shoreline and the surrounding neighborhoods. Another good search engine is seattlerentals.com. You can focus on neighborhood too.

Neighborhoods around Shoreline are: Green Lake, Phinney, Northgate, Wallingford, Ballard, Greenwood, and ... that neighborhood close to the Golden Gardens beach (85th St. and close to the water).

Of those neighborhoods I would choose Green Lake. It's got tons of cute little shops, a HUGE park that is very popular and has dozens of activities, and in the neighborhoods there's still things to do.

Wallingford and Ballard are nice close to 45th St. / Market St. Also, in Wallingford, if you can find rentals near Gas Works park that's a cool area too.

Hi, I as well moved from germany to seattle 2 years ago. Seattle is very walkable, but depends on the location. Shoreline is north of seattle and what a european would think is typical america, With children I would suggest you move to greenlake, wallingford, Phinney ridge. All those a great for children with park and good schools. You can use the web side: walkability and type in the neighborhood, everything abpve 85% is great and believe me more walkable than most places in germany. I would not want to live in shoreline. If you want to rent check: craiglist for places to rent. If you want to buy check : redfin.com and search by neighboorhood. The houseprices as well will reflect the quality of living.
Good luck and it is really a beautiful place to live and people love children and dogs

Check www.johnlscott.com/barbaramcmahon; all of the open houses in the area are listed as well as everything for sale. Might also check out Edmonds. It is an excellent place to live with good schools and very close to shoreline.
