I am hearing that Ken Griffey Jr. could be coming back to Seattle. He is a free agent and is undergoing negotiations. If this works out, this could be a morale boost for the Mariners, and the city of Seattle in general. Seattle had to deal with alot of blows last year. WaMu and Microsoft laying off by the thousands ,the Mariners finishing dead last in the American League(61-101), losing the SuperSonics to Oklahoma City. 2009 could be Seattle's year. Seattle gets a soccer team, Griffey could come back and play for the Mariners again. I have the link:Branyan: Pal Griffey wants to return - MLB - Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-mariners-griffeybuzz&prov=ap&type=lgns - broken link).

This could be good for Seattle. I grew up watcing Griffey(and the Mariners in general. Despite the fact that I have lived in metro Atlanta for 13 years, my team loyalty goes to the Mariners).

Griffey in his prime was amazing to watch. Some of those catches in center field were things of beauty...
I heard that the other potential suitor for Griffey is the Atlanta Braves. I'd love to see Griffey finish out his career here, but I'm afraid they wouldn't use him wisely. He's not the same Griffey. He's 39, and he's slow, a liability in the field, and has a hard time hitting against loefthanders.
Still, if they DH'd him, and rested him against lefties, he'd still get a lot of at bats and would contribute meaningfully. But i think they'll drag him out there everyday and have him play the outfield, simply to fill the stands.

Actually it looks like Griffey is going to sign with the Braves, or so says The Seattle Times.

I hope not! I want Griffey in Seattle, not Atlanta! I might live in Atlanta, but I DO NOT LIKE THE BRAVES. I am just being honest. The idea of Griffey playing for Atlanta rather than for the team I root for(the Mariners) scares me a bit.

Don't worry. If Griffey plays for Atlanta, he may do more harm than good. He's SO much slower in the field than he used to be that he's a liability in the outfield. His swing is still beautiful, he can still hit, but the National league has no designated hitter, so he'd have to play the field in Atlanta...He'd be a lot better off playing in Seattle...I was at one of those playoff games (95?) when he and Edgar Martinez hit back to back home runs, and I'd love to see him back here. I remember when he was a rookie and they were asking him about his power, that his dad barely hit any home runs, where did he get his power, and he said he got it from his mom.

I'm happy about it. May he not regret his decision, hit 30+ home runs, and feel reinvigorated.
