“Summer weather looks like it's finally about to take hold around the Puget Sound weekend after a few false starts over the past several weeks. The first sign might have been the 81 degrees Seattle reached on Tuesday -- breaking a streak of 17 consecutive summer days without an above average high temperature. It was the first 80-degree day since June 26th.

The second sign might be that there are no raindrops on the weekend forecast -- historians are still looking for evidence of the last time that happened around Seattle and are now thinking of examining dinosaur fossils for clues.

But the third and perhaps most important sign is what happens after the weekend: Extended forecasts are showing a long period of dry, warm weather. A more traditional summer pattern of a strong ridge of high pressure anchoring along the West Coast or just offshore is looking to set up shop, shielding the Northwest from any rain.

The pattern is not quite established just yet. We do have another weak trough of low pressure set to swing through... on Thursday and Friday (Not Saturday! Or Sunday!). That could bring some sprinkles or light showers amid a brief return to cloudy and cooler weather, but it's outta here quick, leaving the aforementioned dry weekend forecast in place.

But non-sun-fans might be wondering: Oh no, does this mean we're back to the relentless heat too that we've seen in recent summers? At this point, not exactly. So far, it looks warm but not blazingly hot”.

And we'll be complaining about this unending heat by the end of the week.

Why wait?

I like sun but not heat, so this is not welcomed news. I thought yesterday, whatever temperature it had been, was perfect, but I'm not impressed by the extended forecast.

It will be comfortable until Sunday. Monday and Tuesday are shaping up to be quite miserable for those of us without A/C. Fortunately, unlike the hotter places I lived, it's easy to cool down the house after 9pm so at least I can sleep well.

Seattle summer is usually a crapshoot. One will be cool and cloudy and the next will be hot and sunny. Some are a combination. Expect anything but it appears we are indeed entering into a warm and sunny period in most of the state. Until it isn’t!

You called it!

This morning it's raining, a (hopefully) brief respite from the summer heat that we had Monday and yesterday here (92, 90).

Actually today it is low to mid 70's and overcast. Quite pleasant.
