I think you guys would dig Fremont, Ballard & the Vicinity just north of Seattle.
You'll find Farmer's Markets, Natural stores, all kinds of restaurants & shops.. There are quite a few cyclists in Seattle area as well.
I think you'll have no problem finding a nice 1-2 bedroom for up to $1500. I'm always on CL scouring homes/apartments around that budget. (Mine is quite a bit lower, & I search quite frequently)

I'm not sure about the teacher jobs and availability, but I'd suggest Portland. Lower cost of living and it's definitely more hippie than yuppie.

I've been scouring Craigslist for 2bdr in Fremont, but it doesn't seem like there's all too much inventory, save for 2/3 apts. any thoughts?
