There has been some talk for awhile about Seattle Bidding for an Olympic games alone, and a potential dual bid with Vancouver. Could we do it? If we did would you welcome it?

You can read a few of the requirements to host the Olympics here:

We hosted the Goodwill Games way back when ... it was a regional affair - got the Federal Way Aquatics Center built. I would think we could do the Olympics with the venues spread over the region.

I would rather not spend the $3 billion dollars. Another negative side effect would be that everyone from across the world (and country) would see how great Seattle is during the summer and would move here and instantly raise home values by 200000%.

Oh the flip side tourism dollars would pour in. I would think alot of private money would pour into this games like what Coca-Cola did in Atlanta.

By 2024 the Link Light Rail system will be built out. We'd have to build more hotels in the area, and we'd need the new basketball/hockey arena built, but otherwise I actually think we're set up pretty well to host. However, I wonder where they'd build the athletes village (it would require a MASSIVE housing complex for the summer games)... it would need to be in an area that could be repurposed for desirable apartments or dorms (think Stuyvesant Town in NYC). Unfortunately, the Olympics are usually a burden for the host city and leave cities with a glut of buildings that serve no useful and profitable purpose.

I think this area has alot of venues that could be expand that are already in use. Rowing facilities, King County Aquatic Center, stadiums, a new arena, etc. I think in Olympic stadium would need to be built though but if we are aiming for 2028 or something, it may be time for a replacement for C-Link anyways. It helps that America cities usually have the capability to make these venues useful unlike countries like Greece and China.

Yeah, and we still have no basketball or hockey arena, like I said. We also have no use for a 100,000 seat stadium. The Clink was built in 2002; it won't be ready for replacement in 2028... it better not be, anyway. The Clink would serve as the Olympic Stadium.
