I know everyone on here who keeps up with Metro knows there has been some red tape and political interference with Olympic Security guards' ability to do their job and secure people/places/situations.

But what would a young girl do when she knows she is about to be attacked by some hoodlum thugs? All she could see was "security" and safety vests and figured they could help her - even as she cried for help. The guards just stood there...didn't interfere at all while these thugs beat her. I know these people want a paycheck and want to follow protocol but doesn't it seem to go against human instinct to just sit there and watch as she is mugged and beaten?

Why doesn't anyone step in and help?

Who should take the blame? Olympic Security's homepage reads
"[SIZE=3]Securing your peace of mind is the most important thing we do."

Yes, I was in quite a bit of disbelief when I saw the video clip of that scene as well.
Without knowing the specifics of what the security is (not)allowed to do - it's still unsettling to see absolutely no interference at all.

Upper management at Metro made these rules that the private security guards do not interfere. But Olympic Security is going to take the heat. Metro management will form a task force.

Metro Upper Management? Like which teams/divisions? I hope they create some transparency and accountability in security measures and show us taxpayers where the disconnect is!

Default 3 bus tunnel guards watch brutal beating

The 3 guards watched a 15 yr old girl get beat up & did nothing. Protocol needs to be changed. This is not right. http://news.mobile.msn.com/en-us/art...1&aid=35340001

Of course there is no defense for the witnessing *security* guards who did not intervene in this incident.....

But this was no stranger mugging, and the two 15 year old girls involved in the fight knew each other well, "According to the mother of one of the men charged Wednesday, the two girls have a long history of fighting each other and both have been victimized by the other."

Not excusing anyone for bad behavior, but the public deserves to be notified that this was in NO WAY a case of random stranger violence.

(And how did you manage to connect this to the Olympics in Vancouver and terrorism? I'm flabbergasted at such a leap of ingenuity.)

I don't understand how one can stick to a protocol when something like this is taking place. Human instincts of compassion should override any protocol. The very least they could have done is shield the girl. What purpose does security serve if they can't interveve? It's absolutely disgraceful.

Doesn't surprise me one little bit in Seattle. Not one little bit. Seattle is the town where everyone is afraid to confront the jerk/scumbag/bully, and is madder at the person who fights back against the jerk then at the jerk him or herself (because the rare person with balls enough to take a stand embarrasses and humiliates the others who lack the guts to do the right thing). Those few people inclined to be bullies and jerks in Seattle are accustomed to this, which is why they keep getting away with it--no one has ever dared confront them, nor do they believe anyone ever will. Culturally, it is by far the town's worst feature. Saw it over and over and over again. It is more important to 'make nice' and avoid the confrontation than to do the right thing.
