Hi all. I am moving to Seattle in a few months and have been checking out rental housing on craigslist. I have four dogs and a cat, and have been a little discouraged about the lack of available places for my situation. I know it's a lot of animals, but they are my kids and I am not going to get rid of them to get into a place. Every "pet friendly" place I've seen has either a weight restriction and/or a maximum number (usually two). My dogs are all sweet mutts under 50 lbs and do not have any "aggressive" breed in the mix. Does anyone know of a resource or website where I might find listings for very pet friendly housing. Thanks.

Unfortunately, you are competing in a tight rental market with people who don't have four dogs and a cat. Perhaps you can rent a small farm way on the outskirts of town or look into buying a home.

I have the same dilemma. I have 3 cats - 3 cats, but that "one cat over the limit" puts me on the "banned from almost every resident imagineable" in the Seattle area. Maybe not quite so bad, but it sure does feel like it.

If you want to live close to Seattle - I haven't found the answer to that, maybe renting a house? With a roommate? If you're flexible a bit - you might have more options. I live in Des Moines which is just south of the airport. The complex I live in was ok that I have three cats *and* that I have a friend who drops off their 2 dogs from time to time (for a couple of days here and there). They didn't try to take advantage of me on pet deposit nor do they charge "per month" pet rent fee (which so many places do, and is so ridiculous!!). I would imagine other places in Des Moines area might be pet friendly as well.

If you go the other way, there's Lynnwood - which is about as far north from Seattle as Des Moines is south from Seattle. They are also a typically pet friendly area. I used to live in a complex "Canyon Springs" that allows 4 pets - and I'm pretty sure they have the same policy. It's a nice complex, very reasonable rent. So those are two areas you might start with.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions I can answer. I know how frustrating this process can be - trust me, I know.....

If you have more than 2 animals you're better off buying a house. Trying to rent with a herd is a seriously unpleasant experience. You're disqualified from about 95% of available properties, and the ones you have to choose from are either serious compromises or priced higher than a mortgage.

We have 3 cats and needed a relative to take them in while looking for a house.
