Hello! I'm currently living in Pennsylvania but I plan on moving to Minneapolis or Seattle by the end of this summer. I haven't decided yet as it will depend on where I can find a job as a Registered Nurse. I just wanted to know what are some safe neighborhoods for a young single woman with no children? Also, is it difficult finding an RN job in Seattle or other surrounding areas? I frequently look on indeed.com and there doesn't seem to be a lot of listings for jobs. Could I also afford to live in Seattle on a nurse's salary? Thanks!

Look for RN jobs on the Univ of WA, Swedish, Virginia Mason Web sites. Each has multiple locations and both inpatient/outpatient options.

Also look at the Times site (nwjobs).

Your timing could have been better, with a new full service hospital opening up and some expansions in the last year or two a lot of them were hired. Check also the websites for Overlake Hospital in Bellevue and Evergreen in Kirkland. One person should be able to manage fine on a RN salary here as long as you have a fairly simple lifestyle.

My wife is RN with Franciscan HC in Federal Way. She works night shifts and makes ton of money, but it's hard earned buck.
According to her, what was before "stick finger out and get hired" is long gone. Hospitals here are badly consolidating, smaller ones bought out by larger ones, and layoffs are everywhere. Like I said - according to her - it'll be very tough to find a well paid job.
Safe hoods here.. Rural areas are still very safe. Covington is expanding and will open full blown hospital soon, they just opened Emergency bldg.Valley Medical is moving in too. That might be something to look into. Plenty of rentals and affordable apartments around and very green.

Full blown hospital? I mean, what? ... where? Why? There is Valley Medical Center in Renton and Multicare Medical Center in Auburn-- there's no need for another full-blown hospital in that general region. I'm having a hard time believing that Covington would even get their own medical center especially after watching Issaquah's process with their Swedish Hospital center.

Valley Medical and Multi-Care both already opened Urgent Care Walk-in Clinics in Covington-- I think that's what you were thinking of.
