just wondering if people rode e-bikes out there. i'm moving to town in a few months and i was going to build one before i left so i'd have transportation. i 'm going to be using a regular full suspension mt bike and use a brushless hub motor. is it legal there? and where can they get away riding? on the pathways, roads? thx

I also build electric bikes as a hobby. I rarely see them around. The home built ones tend to be more powerful but aren't always the best in wet conditions.

If you have any questions on your build (which motor to use, controllers, battery technology, etc.), feel free to PM me.

I see people on them all over Ballard but know nothing about them. People ride them in the bike lane and on the trails.

I believe legally you are not supposed to ride them in bike lanes and on trails. But if you are nice about it, people don't seem to mind too much (other than the snarky "you're cheating" comments every now and then). Electric bikes are pretty quiet and don't intrude too much.

However, if you ride one of those gas powered bikes that sound like a lawn mower, I hate those.

And if you ride your bike at blazing fast speeds and almost run over the other bikes on the trail, you probably shouldn't be riding there.

I don't see as many bike messengers as other cities such as SF, NY, etc.

But I do see a lot of Jimmy Johns delivery guys on bikes.
