I googled park and ride in NW Washington and clicked on a WSDOT link. I was not at all prepared for what came up. I've never seen so many park and ride locations. I can only wonder how many cars the whole bunch will hold. If I'm going to park at one and ride transit into Seattle, it looks like paring is the big challenge. Gives me some hope of not driving into Seattle.

WSDOT doesn't list how many parking slots they offer? Soundtransit does on theirs (Parking - SoundTransit), but those are the "bigger" ones. A lot of times, churches and such will offer their lots for the Park n Riders.

On the Sound Transit map, it show P&R at Smokey Point. After you park there, what do you "ride"?

Smokey Point would be Community Transit, you would go to Lynnwood then catch another bus to Seattle. The many park & rides are used not only for bus service but also carpools and vanpools. Some of them do get full by 8am, but most have plenty of room most days.

How do these fares work? One from Smokey Point to Lynwood, then another from Lynwood to Seattle?

Yes. Local is like $1.75 but to Seattle can be as much as $4.50. Most commuters will buy an Orca card (pass) which works on all of the various regional buses. If you need to get from 3rd & Pine in Seattle by another bus, you can use Metro or Sound Transit bus on the same card. You just have to keep enough money loaded onto it. Many larger employers in Seattle
will fully or partially fund the Orca card to help meet their required employer commute reduction goals.

Should probably get one.
