Can anyone tell where I can find short-term rental (1 week) in the downtown area? Don't want to go the Craigslist route. Staying in a hotel will be too expensive. I will be traveling (Female in her 30ies)alone so would like to be in a safe area and do it as budget friendly as I can.

Thanks!

You could try airbnb.com. It's a website for private rentals. I was looking at it for a trip to SF a few weeks ago and really like the concept. I did not use it in the end and stayed in a hotel but I certainly got the impression there is some space for price negotiation, especially if you stay an entire week.

I end up finding a place with some research and made a reservation to lock it in. I'll be spending a month in Seattle and really excited. I'll be staying in the Belltown area..Great price too! $995/mo..I'll checkout the site u mentioned just incase I find something more to my liking.

I stayed in a vacation rental in Queen Anne on one of my visits, but they have plenty of ones downtown and in other areas too:
