Ahh, I don't even know what to say to the first part of that. Let's see your choices. Live down there and spend 2 hours a day (10 hours a week) and 3 tanks of gas a week (aka $600 after tax a month) to live far away from your University and give up 2 hours of studying or fun time or live near your school, pay $2-300 more a month in rent and be close to the people you know.

You're going to graduate school. I think you can figure out the better answer. Figure out what school you're going to attend and you can either rent a 1BR near it or find a house with other graduate students. There's absolutely no reason for you to a have a car. Get a bike or walk. Save the money, you're a student.
