I have a potential job offer in Federal Way, WA, and was wondering if it is a City that can be lived in without a car. Basically, how is public transportation in Federal Way, and for access to Seattle?

I don't think it would be wise to live in Federal Way with no car. There is a transit center near teh mall that has buses that go straight to down town seattle, however most of the neighborhood buses only run once an hour (on occasion they dont even show up). I have some friends who work in seattle and live in Federal Way. They usually drive to the transit station and then take a bus into the city.

Post gets complicated

I spent some timew in the seattle area. I am from the midwest but am a big city girl origianally from Houston, TX.

Most of my time was spent on Bremerton with good and reliable transit and further north of seattle. Found the city of seattle to be difficult to get around and takes a while on public transit. Ferry's are extremely expensive unless you walk on-then its free.

Seattle has a free zone for transit too-GREAT!!! be prepared for many bus connections but you will get there. It seems many people talk down federal way but I thought parts of it were nice and affordable. Take a look at Gig Harbour (one of my favs) and Pyallup (beautiful).

Comin from the midwest I got lost a lot! -got on wrong freeways for awhile. If you take Tacoma Narrows Bridge-expensive but easy drive.

You'll want a car in Federal Way. You can get around by bus, but you might have to walk a little ways to the bus stop.

The Federal Way transit center also has some problems with violence - not major problems, but more than the other transit centers. You don't want to be there outside of commuting hours.

I would think it would be extremely difficult to get by in Federal Way without a car, but of course not impossible, as there are plenty of folks in Federal Way and all over the area who lack cars and still manage to work and play. It's one of those cities that seems to have been built for people to drive to and from.
