I realize we all use technology to earn a living but this post is regarding our personal lives.
Is anyone else ever tempted to ditch the cell phone, computer, TV, tablet, etc..?
This is coming from a self proclaimed Geek (thus my username). I absolutely LOVE technology and enjoy it and work with it daily but sometimes I want to go back to the time before iPhones, iPads and smart tvs. Maybe just quit cold turkey. Have a landline hooked up in my home and maybe a tv with rabbit ears but that's about it. I really think technology is stressing out people today.
We used to be able to get away from being reached by just leaving the house (no cell phones). Now, it is like anyone with a cell phone is expected to be available 24/7. I realize I can just not answer, silence my phone etc. but that creates extra tensions and stresses if you don't answer.
And then bring facebook, twitter, instagram etc. and people feel the need to check these things 24/7 and it adds a lot of stress and anxiety to people.
So I guess my main concern is the cell phone. I'm very tempted to just try a week without it. I need it for work but only while at the office so this is possible for me but I know not everyone can do it.
I simultaneously LOVE and HATE technology. (no I am not saying I hate technology that helps save lives / advance the human race)
We got rid of our iPads because they did the same thing our iPhones can do so there was no need to have both.
I am getting ready to get rid of our desktop computer and we will be using the laptops only and no we will not give those up.
We have a television but when my husband is gone working the television is never on.
I only listen to the radio when I am in my vehicle.
My husband wants to keep the house phone.
We both have a kindle and will not do without those either.
As far as giving up technology completely, when we go camping we have the cell phones with us and the laptops however, they are rarely used because we are camping to enjoy our surroundings and our grand children.
We do not have a television in our motorhome and no radio either.
Society is already fully dependent on technology. There is no going back now.
