Moms Incredible launches to empower women in Sarasota-Manatee County

https://www.mysuncoast.com/2024/06/2...anatee-county/

Greg and Michaela Wood announced the launch of Moms Incredible, a national nonprofit dedicated to empowering all moms to rediscover their true identities by pursuing their individual passions.

The launch of the organization follows the success of Moms Incredibles’ first Immersion Program experience through The Crossing, an 80-mile paddleboard trek from Bimini, Bahamas to Lake Worth, Florida that raised money for families affected by cystic fibrosis.

The Stretch Zone of North Venice supports this event and serves as Moms Incredible’s flagship sponsor.

Michaela Wood, founder of Moms Incredible, created this organization using her own experiences as a mother. “As a mother, I understand the tremendous changes that happen in a person’s life when deciding to raise a family. I started this organization because I believe that when mothers are supported in achieving their individual goals, they not only enrich their own well-being, but they set a powerful example of who they truly are—and want to be—to their children, both before and after becoming a mom.”

The organization believes that the best way to inspire children to follow their dreams is by watching their mothers do the same.

Moms Incredible achieves their goals by supporting mothers in reaching their own goals through bespoke projects and organizational programs led by Moms Incredible partners and ambassadors, who will be integral to their team.

The Crossing is the first initiative accomplished through Moms Incredible’s Immersion Program, a six-hour paddleboard race that took place over 8-foot seas and is one of the longest ocean races.

Headquartered in Sarasota County, the national nonprofit is currently expanding its Immersion Program designed for mothers seeking customized experiences, in addition to its Community Program, which offers local meetups and events for everyone, ensuring flexibility and inclusivity for all mothers who wish to participate.

An Ellenton man was arrested Tuesday after he left a girl alone in a hot car for “several hours,” according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 20, Markise L. Outing, 24, showed up at a Bradenton fire station seeking medical attention for an unconscious 6-year-old girl, identified as his girlfriend’s daughter.

“(She) even appeared, after paramedics started to look at her, that she may be in cardiac arrest. They did everything they could right there on the floor of the fire station to revive the child,” Randy Warren, the Public Information Officer with MCSO said.

She was rushed to the hospital with a core body temperature of 107.2 degrees. She died about three hours later.

83-year-old Bradenton cyclist dies after completing lifelong goal (Video)

Last week, Bob Blanchard was riding his bike in Michigan when he was hit and killed by a driver.

At 83 years old, Bob Blanchard finally achieved his seemingly impossible goal.

Earlier this month, the Bradenton man reached an unfathomable milestone: 200,000 miles ridden on a bicycle.

He had completed cross-country bike trips over most of his adult life but needed one more ride to achieve his goal.

He set off from Bradenton in May and reached Houghton Lake, Michigan, a few weeks later. The roughly 1,500 mile was just enough to reach the 200,000-mile mark.

However, the celebration and jubilation were short-lived. His trip ended in tragedy.

“I guess because of the tragedy — the suddenness of it — that it’s just been really hard for me to — excuse me,” said Bob’s girlfriend, Judi Windle of Parrish.

Last Thursday morning around 8:30, a driver struck and killed Blanchard as he was riding his bike through Bay City, a small city north of Saginaw. According to family members, Blanchard was leaving his son’s house en route for his daughter’s home.

An off-duty Sarasota County Fire Department (SCFD) lifeguard is being called a hero after he saved a family of seven from a rip current over the weekend.

On Saturday, the family was swimming in the Gulf of Mexico when a strong storm struck Sarasota County around 5 p.m.

The storm created the rip current that carried them more than 200 yards into the gulf, the Sarasota County Fire Department said.

Lifeguard Mariano Martinez, a six-year veteran lifeguard for Sarasota County, was at Lido Beach when he received a water rescue alert on the Pulse Point app.

Martinez, who was not on duty then, grabbed a rescue tube and swam out to the group. Once he reached the group, he found nine swimmers, most in distress, after two others tried to rescue the family, the fire department said.

Martinez secured one swimmer with the rescue tube and got two others to shore before returning for the first swimmer. SCFD said with multiple trips using bodyboards, Martinez brought the group back to safety.

“I have, always, in my car, or wherever I am, my rescue stuff because I love responding,” said Martinez.
