I've driven it many times as I'm sure Rushmore, Big House and many others probably have.

Realistically you're probably looking at about 20 hours or so when you calculate in stopping for gas, food, etc.

16-18 hrs if you push it. Short stops for food and fuel together. I would leave at 3-4am to get around the DC mess, after that clear sailing. 95 s to 295 around Jax to 10 w then 75 s. Quickest for me.

Mapquest says it's 15 hours and I don't think that includes stops. If you're not in a rush why not take a break in NC or SC, eat, get a good night's sleep and continue on the next day? I've done Philadelphia-Sarasota and won't do it straight through anymore. Even as a passenger, my back can't take it.

We drive from Syracuse, NY to Port Charlotte, FL and that is a 20 hour trip. So coming from DC to Sarasota should be around 15 hours. We spend the night in NC. We leave at 5am to beat the morning traffic and get to NC around dinner time with stopping for lunch and a bathroom break. It is much easier to take the trip if you spend the night, but some people drive straight through. Depending on your tolerance level, tiredness and if you have more than one driver.

I drive non-stop, except for gas, letting the dog out for a few minutes when I get gas, and to go to a drive through or two along the way. I leave at 4:30 AM so I clear all the Baltimore and DC beltway traffic and am well on my way to Richmond before 6:30 AM. When I do that I am in Punta Gorda (an hour south of Sarasota) by midnight. It takes me about an hour and a half to get past Dale City from Baltimore.

So if you get to Dale City at say 6:30AM (allow time for traffic), you should in Sarasota by 11:00 if you don't dawtle. Good Luck, Drive Safe, Stay Focused and Alert!
