If you watched the local weather report, you know that tropical storm Emily or possibly Hurricane Emily, may be visiting FL by the end of this week.

Most people in FL know to stock up on their hurricane supplies each summer, just in case. They gather together flashlights, canned foods & a manual can opener, bottled water, tarps, etc.

But how many of us remember to update our household inventory for insurance purposes? Having a detailed list of all of your belongings, large and small, for insurance purposes can be a real lifesaver in the event a tropical storm or hurricane does damage your home.

You can make a simple inventory in a notebook that you keep with your insurance policy. (Which should be kept with you in a water tight container during an actual weather situation.) Some people prefer to video the items in their home. Receipts are also helpful on big ticket items.

There is another way to keep an inventory of your home's contents via the web. DocuHome.com allows you to create an inventory spreadsheet online where it's safe from all weather events. They do charge a fee, but another web site, StuffSafe.com does not. I'm sure there are other online inventory options available if you search.

However, you do it, now is a good time to either make your inventory list or update your old inventory list. Better to be safe than sorry.
