Found this fella hanging out by the egde of the pool. 2nd time we've seen one like this. He likes to swim in the pool and is pretty small.

DS chased him with the pool skimmer and finally ejected him from the premises. I found a hole and closed it up so hopefully no more visitors.

BTW - the frog lived!

It's a perfectly harmless garter snake. Likes to live near water or water sources. Eats earthworms, tiny fish, slugs, insects, small frogs, etc.

Non-venomous. Very, very common snake. All it wants is for you to leave it alone so it can go about hunting. You'll probably see more of them.

looks like a yellow rat snake. open this and scroll down.http://www.macdillfamilyhousing.com/Files/MacDill%20Snake%20ID%20flyer%20WEB..pdf

most cases except coral snakes and sea snakes the ones without the triangle shaped heads are non posionous. reason i am told that the venemous ones have the triangle shaped head is because the venom sacks are located there.

Looks to me like a Southern Ribbon Snake or possibly a Yellow Rat. Looks more like a Southern Ribbon though from the pics.

Seems as though he's finding plenty to eat at your house! Cute little guy...

I was thinking possibly the Yellow Rat as well but they're more common in the northern parts of FL you don't see them much around here. Ribbon snakes are more common in this area.

Speaking of snakes. FL lost a wonderful person last week, Bill Haast http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/18/us/18haast.html He lived in Punta Gorda and was 100 when he died. He was the director of the Miami Serpentarium for many years and produced much of the worlds snake anti-venom.
