When I lived in Tallahassee, I used Brinks. No problems there. Down here in Sarasota, I would try to determine whether I was in an area serviced by SafeTouch. If I could absolutely NOT have SafeTouch, then I would use either ADT/Broadview (or whatever they call themselves this week) or Brinks.

EDIT: SafeTouch was recommended to me by a FL Hwy Patrolman, but I just did some research (just to be sure), and it seems that they have a TON of negative feedback on the internet. Please DISREGARD my recommendation. Sorry. I should have done the research PRIOR to making a recommendation.

from my prior experience w/ alarms, you can use old equipment w/ any company.

there was equipment here. we had it activated w/ a new company (we also had new equipment added into our house at that time). when our contract expired, the same guy who installed it came back to the house. he was now working for a different company and wanted to sign us up w/ the new compnay. we stayed with the same company -- which was then bought by ADT. so, now we're with ADT.

everyone wants yoru business! that's one thing i figured out. they'll give you tons of new equipment for signing up the contract. i know that one of the myriad of specials going on now is 99.00 install w/ ADT.

i would suggest getting a "new brain" for your alarm, regardless of whether yours still works because they do have a shelf life, if you will. i woudl require the over the counter surge protector (it costs like 8.00. the week my alarm was installed my house was struck by lightening and shorted out the system!)

you can also get a hard wired smoke detector -- w/ most insurance companies, you will get an even further discount. i like having it because the company will call the fire dept. if we're gone.
