Hello everyone,

I am relocating from the East Coast to San Jose area in the beginning of February to work in Mountain View.

I've been doing my research (while I'm still in the East Cost) to find a good apartment (going over apartment web listings, apartmentratings.com, craigslist.org, and this forum). I was hoping to find some candidate apartments that I can schedule to view later and once I am there I go and take a look at. But not much of luck.

I've been focusing on apartments within a reasonable driving distance from my work in Mountain View (near Sunnyvale municipal Golf Course). I am looking for a small 1 bedroom, in the range of $1,400.

I'm a single male. A "good" apartment for me would be:
-Quality of complex (quiet enough, clean, no smell)
-community/neighborhood (no car break-ins, no bikes stolen, decent professional neighbors)
-Proximity to gyms/stores

Your suggestions and help would be highly appreciated,
Thanks much.

Years ago, I rented a reasonably-priced, safe apartment on Montecito, near Shoreline. There's a strip mall with a Safeway within walking distance.

Probably a lot of places in Mountain View will meet your criteria. I'm not sure about the rent thought, but $1400 for a 1BR sounds about right.

You can definitely find a 1BR for less at the moment. The apartment I'm moving out of in Mountain View (moving up to SF now) is currently going for ~1000/month. It's located in a safe area near downtown mountain view, within walking distance to the caltrain. It has a gym, and some pools and a lot of professionals around (google, etc.) I can give you more info if you PM me. I also know of several really nice complexes in mountain view with higher rents ~1300-1400/month, but not quite as close to downtown (but still with shopping only a walk away). Mountain View is a great place to move to from the east coast. I'm from NY. I love it here. Let me know if you want more info. I'd be happy to help!
