Default No!

I did a free trial with T-Mobile, and it was really bad... I was living in Belmont Hills at the time, and almost every call got dropped halfway through. Argh!! That was a few years ago, so maybe things have improved? It could also depend on where you live, since the hill-towns (especially near highway 280) are known for crappy cell phone reception... but even so, Cingular worked much better in the same neighborhood.

P.S. A lot of people here also complain about Verizon, so I'd suggest going with Cingular - unless using the same service as your family would save lots of money, I suppose.

I've used T-Mobile and was not happy with it at all. Call were dropped even in my home. I'm with Cingular and though all the service are below satisfactory, Cingular seems to be the least irritating.

I live in Santa Clara and have had T-Mobile for a year now. I have to say that I'm pleased w/ the service. More so than I was w/ Cingular. The selling point for me was not only the free phone but it is one of the only, if not THE only provider, you only have to sign a 1-year contract. I was scepitcal at first, so I tried it knowing I could back out w/i 30 days. Well, it's been a year now and I plan to renew, if they upgrade my phone.

Default Phone Service

Coincidentally I was in a cellular store today asking the same questions of Colorado. THe best coverage in the majority of the Bay Area is Verizon. Cingular gets better coverage in the city of San Francisco simply because they have more towers on more buildings there. But other than that Verizon has the best coverage everywhere else.
Good luck

I live in downtown San Jose, and have had T-Mobile, Verizon, and now Cingular, with relatively the same quality of service. I have had no real problems in terms of service with any of those providers (although Cingular dropped a few calls). My friend who has T-Mobile cannot get service in her home in the Willow Glen area, but I think there just might be something wrong with her phone, since my phone worked fine there back when I had T-Mobile.
