Hi all,

I am thinking of buying a house in Morgan Hill. I am hoping to buy a 2-story 3 or 4 bedroom house within a couple of miles of downtown, and rent one or two rooms. My question is how difficult is it to find a roommate there? Currently I rent in north San Jose and haven't had a lot of problems in finding new roommates when I needed them. I do see some roommate ads on craigslist (not very many though), but wanted to get a better idea.

Thanks.

It shouldn't be an issue. Lot of Silicon Valley folks like Morgan Hill, as it is upscale and a little off the beaten path.

Another plus is that there is a Caltrain station in Morgan Hill.

Wouldn't Silicon Valley folks (I am one of them) prefer to live closer to work if they are renting, instead of doing a 20+ mile commute from MH?

Yes, there is a Caltrain station, but trains run only during peak hours and on weekdays.

What are the options (other than driving) if one wants to go to SF/peninsula/Fremont area? Any idea? I like MH but I wish there was more public transportation.

Thanks.

Supersonic, I'm sure there are singles in MH that may be looking for a room, but the town itself attracts mostly young families and retirees. Personally, if I were a single person I wouldn't choose to live in MH (unless I worked in MH)--and I do live in MH and LOVE it, but I have 2 kids and a husband.

One young single person I know of specifically chose MH and commuting to Santa Clara for work, rented a small cottage in the Holiday Lake estates area (right by Lake Anderson). He likes the solitude, had dogs and wanted more open space.

You might be able to find a student/s to rent your rooms, from Gavilan College.

Gavilan College - The College of Choice

There must be a bulletin board somewhere on campus where you can post an ad...

the choices for public transportation/being car less in morgan hill to the bay area are:

1: the 68 bus, which links the south county to the santa teresa light rail station and diridon station, and some express buses that run a commute schedule and no weekends
2: caltrain, which only runs a limited commute schedule on weekdays, no weekend service
3: hitchhike on santa teresa or ride your bike or horse up the coyote creek trail to san jose

thats it
