I think:

I like my San Jose Earthquakes 2012 Season Tickets pack that just arrived today. These will be even more lovely when they come next year, when a brand spankin' new MLS Soccer-Specific Stadium opens at the Airport West site where FMC used to be. A whole bunch of soccer fields for the community will also be built, along with office space, retail and a hotel on the rest of the 64 acres (The Epicenter will cover 14 acres on the south end of the property).

All that needs to be done is have the Newhall appeal rejected (mitigations have already been incorporated into the stadium design) at the 2/22 Planning Commission meeting, and we're off!

And then we can talk about the A's Cisco Field, which is also to be built by Lew Wolff, next to Diridon Station and HP Pavilion.

The lonely shiftless people who keep on saying this town is boring are soon going to have far fewer excuses.

I like it a lot. I live in the East Bay and the only reason I come down to SJ is for Sharks and Quakes games. I can't wait for the stadiums first US Men's National Team game.

However, I think the stadium looks a bit "cheap" compared to other Soccer Specific Stadiums in MLS. Look at Red Bull Arena or Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City. Those are some cathedrals.

As for Cisco Field, I guess I will have to reluctantly drag my feet there but at least the A's are still in the Bay Area.

Yes, build it (of course, with private funds - learning a lesson or 3 from the emerging Santa Clara debacle ...).

Can't wait! Buck Shaw is getting old and tired, and has too much of a high school feel to it. Now let's get that A's ballpark done!

It's funny you call RBA a cathedral because it is a cookie-cutter replica of the derided and unimaginative modern generation that many in Europe dislike. The only appeal for American fans is that it is expensive, but it really lacks any distinguishing feature on TV. We can be proud that a soccer team in this country has such investment behind it, but I would hate for more MLS clubs to copy that venue.

Not only is it privately financed, it takes blighted land no one wanted that cost the city $7 million per year before Lew Wolff bought it, and substantially revitalizes that part of town for all to enjoy (basically extending downtown SJ northward).
