My husband accepted a job in Mountainview. We are looking for a smaller public school that is not so focused on test scores but instead on the whole child. An integrative school that promotes critical thinking and creativity. What areas in the South Bay area do you suggest? What is Boulder Creek like? Palo Alto is too costly. We cannot register for a school until we can prove residency. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

I don't know about the school systems but Los Gatos is a good place to live and i'm betting that their schools are better than Boulder Creeks. I've heard that the schools in Santa Cruz county (i don't have kids) are not great although i believe that there are a few exceptions.
Also, commuting from Los Gatos (a very nice town right over the hill on the San Jose side of the S.C. mountains and less than a half hour drive to the coast during non rush hour times) to Mountain View will be a lot easier for your husband.
Los Gatos, however, is not an inexpensive place to live nor is Boulder Creek although i imagine if you're considering those communities you already know how they compare to Palo Alto.
