I have read some of you answeres to questions & I am woundering if you will be able to give me advice on some legal issues I have. My husband had a credit card before we were married & ran the bill up to about $3,000 , now the collection agency hires a lawyer & served him legal paper. They are saying he owes them $9,000 + some change but they want 85% witch is $7,500. I am willing to settle & pay cash for what we originally owed but do not want to pay much more than that. They are also sewing my husband for all the legal fees. They will not settle for a dime less than the $7,500. What do I do. I am pregnant & do not need the stress. Please help me!
Thank you.

If you don't own your home or have significant assets, tell them to shove it. The only thing they can do is to get a judgment.

You already posted this and the thread was moved to the Business section. Like I said on the other thread: get a lawyer, pay the debts you can, and try not to get into anymore debt (basically, that's just my summation).

Thank you Waccamatt. I need to hear what can happen to me instead of the person who wrote a note under yours like "PAY IT" i know that i would not be asking if I could pay it!

It all depends on how much the court is in the collection agency's back pocket. Normally they should recognize that the debt amount is $3,000, and unless there's something in the contract that would reasonably cause the actual real debt to balloon up 3x (doubtful), there's no legal basis for them to try and collect it. So you should get a judgment ordering you to pay the original amount.
