We're going to be in your fair city on an errand this fall, so I'm looking for accommodation.

I can hardly find a hotel or motel in San Francisco that isn't reported on Bedbug registry.com or the National Bedbug Registry Database. I'm itching just thinking about it.

Unfortunately, these websites only list the history of reports and not more current information for possible subsequent treatments and eradication.

But wow, the hotel bedbug problem in SF looks pretty serious.

Any local news on the bedbug fight? I'm sure it's not as bad on residential property for those of you living there, but for visitors it's looking pretty creepy [so to speak].

Local scuttlebutt?

ugh. Thanks for the heads-up. I stayed in a cheap hotel/B&B there a few years ago, and no problem. Maybe you should try the B & B's.

I've stayed in 5 hotels in SF and never encountered bed bugs, but they were mid-scale or better properties. Use tripadvisor to check reviews.

Newsflash: Every hotel or motel in any city could and probably should be on that website. Bedbugs are inherent in the hotel industry. If you've got people from around the country and around the world bringing a suitcase full of their belongings and sleeping in a bed, then at some point, you've got bed bugs.

I can only report that about a year ago in desperation we stayed at Roberts on the Beach which is probably the cheapest hotel in SF and neither of us noticed any problem.

NYC is a billion times worse than SF, but yeah, you need to do your homework and make sure to check your bed once you get to your room.

I also recommend Tripadvisor for research, as long as you're willing to read the reviews there with care and skepticism.

Dang tourists!

btw, how would that happen? Do bedbugs infest Euro and Asian closets and clothing storage drawers as well as their beds?
