I'm getting tired of Burlingame after 5 years -- it works fine for the young families, but I am older, single, wanting a place where I can have a bit of garden, pay a bit less in rent for a 1 BR. I could check craigslist for specific postings, but first I'd be interested in getting ideas for communities that I may not have considered yet. A place where I can connect with other artists, for example, would be high on my list of priorities. My pace is slower, I don't need a lot of "stuff" like living near a big box store; been there, done that years ago when raising family. Ideally it is a pretty, walkable area, within a two-hour drive of SF for times I want to come into the city for entertainment. North Bay? East Bay? South Bay? Ideas for me?
Thanks in advance

I would recommend Berkeley, Walnut Creek.

There's some kind of artists' organization or project in Fairfax, I think. Santa Cruz might be good, too. That would be pushing the limit of your 2-hr. drive to SF requirement, but it fits.

Looks like I should head north and do some exploring! Some artist friends were going to take a painting field trip to Occidental, maybe I'll join them and see what's there.
