Don't put words in my mouth, you claim to be educated, there is no need for strawmen here.

I never said Oaklanders are liars. I simply have never seen local media distort or purposefully tarnish Oakland outside of the facts of the stories they run.

It doesn't pass the common sense test anyway. First off, why would KTVU, SFGate, Contra Costa Times, Valleo Times Hearald etc combine forces to trash Oakland?

What is their incentive?

Oakland really is as dangerous as the media portrays. I've never seen anything on KTVU, SFGate, Contra Costa Times, etc that could be construed as slanderous or untrue about Oakland.
Well somebody has to be lying. The media has painted the city as a war torn city where lawlessness is the norm, and you seem to agree with this claim. So it must be that the thousands of people who live in Oakland and enjoy a much different experience have it all wrong then. Right?

I've never seen the media locally call Oakland a "war torn city". I have seen numerous stories about the increase in violent crime, homicides, and gutting of the local police force by budget problems. Those are all categorically true.

Yes, if an investor is guaranteed to get back 200% their initial investment back from an opportunity, that's an excellent return. In fact it's so good that if anyone heard that they were getting that type of return on investment, you would attract a lot of other investors, and they would attract even more investors, and so on and so on.

The media also touts Oakland as a fine destination for art, dining, weather, culture, and real estate investment. Could it be that the media just wants to sell newspapers? Violence, entertainment, and money tend to sell more than anything else...

I recall some are doubling their money from somewhere around this thread.

I find you are describing Oakland RE pretty close with this post. Some are attracted, 1 is driven away.

So you say Oakland has the lowest prices in an otherwise expensive area, with prices doubled? Yet they are still relatively low?

Now Doc, you know there ain't no guarantee....

But ya must be missing some fine investment opportunities.

Live where ya want though, Timbuktoo for all I care.

Umm, sorry to tell you, but most of the homicide stories in Oakland aren't front page news in the Contra Costa Times. MAYBE a few paragraphs, but never more than that since it's a pretty common occurrence. In fact the only one I can remember getting front page coverage was when that Oakland felon shot 4 cops with his AK-47. That was one of the worst cop homicide stories in 2009.

So if Oakland murders do sell papers as you theorize, at least Contra Costa Times is doing it wrong.

Yeah, lots of people make grandiose claims on investment returns. Few actually pan out or are proven as true though.

So you admit that you get your OAKLAND news from a newspaper that doesn't heavily report on it, from another county. LOL.

It's great that you'll dig through the paper to read these articles though. Whatever lets you sleep better at night I guess.
