And yet, "superficial" still doesn't apply, not like in LA. It may in WC, but not in much of the rest of the Bay Area.

I rest my case.

I find this is a lost concept in the Bay Area, and I've been here for over 20 years.

The pseudo-intellectualism is pretty fake and superficial and that's found in plenty of places here. Speaking as a native that has lived in SoCal, not everyone finds the Bay Area so "real" and "down to earth" as some think it is.

You're one of the most negative people on this forum. Do you ever have anything positive to say?

It's just different forms of the same snoot. In SoCal, the snoot is focused around materialism and showing wealth.

In NorCal the snoot is focused around showing off degrees and university pedigree (we're so smart and intellectual), faux intellectualism and environmentalism (I drive a Prius and use BART, I'm doing my part!), and a false sense of achievement and accomplishment (we created Zynga!). Also, honestly, Silicon Valley, and the type of people who parade around there are becoming more and more like the "paper chasers" in L.A, in fact, San Jose metro is becoming like mini-L.A metro.

Point being, people can be superficial in different ways, but it's all snoot in the end.

Sex good---but for people that talk about it and obsess over it to anonymous strangers on a message board are most definitely the ones losing out

Exactly. For example, Oakland/Berkeley snootiness is defined by the grocery store you go to, how local your food is, and of course there is the whole concept of picking something "obscure and exotic" from everything from art to food to travel.

When was the last time you said anything positive and didn't get super defensive and berate another member because they said something you didn't agree with? And which username was it under? Also how pathetic does one have to keep coming back here YEARS after they were first originally banned. You're probably the angriest most pathetic troll on this site and that says A LOT, most give up and don't keep coming back year after year like you do. Oh but that's right, it's a big giant right wing conspiracy against you!

Precisely. Berkeley is one of the worst places when it comes to being superficial to be honest.

Just walk on Bancroft or Telegraph, and you will have all sorts of self-aggrandizing 24 year olds shoving aborted baby fetus pictures in your face, passing out pamphlets about Israeli war crimes with pictures of mutilated arab children, and instead of studying for a midterm, they'll spend time in people's park dancing with homeless people, and planting a "sustainable food garden" while attempting to discuss why the Austrian school is the way to go in this economy.

In many ways, the snoot here is even more offensive than in L.A. People showing off their $150,000 sports car is just funny, and ridiculous. Pretending to care about people and political issues on another continent in the 3rd world, while wearing a $175 Urban Outfitters jacket, is simply offensive.
