Comcast is pretty good except for the fact that they charge you an arm and a leg for everything. You don't need to get a contract with them, their recent ads say something about cheap deals without a contract. You could see if you can get AT&T U-Verse which is cheaper but a bit slower, I had it in North Oakland. Both have deals for new subscribers, try and get a 12 month one if you can then threaten to switch when the term is up.
