In August, my wife and myself are going to San Diego to check out the area to see if it is where we want to move to next year.
Since it would be a huge change from central Illinois where we are now, we figured go see if we like it and go from there.
This past winter with a gazillion inches of snow and freezing temps have just about put us over the edge. And, right now we
are at a point in our lives where everything is lining up (almost to perfectly) to do it next year.

If any of you are in the medical field, I have a question. She is a ped's RN and we have been talking to a hospital out there
which sent us there benefit package. While I know there is a huge cost of living difference between Illinois & SD but the
pay and benefits package they offer is unbelievable. Is there a huge RN shortage out there where they have to offer such a
big package? I mean she could be making over 6 figures and their insurance coverage is outstanding & for very cheap.
I am a conspiracy theorist (aka Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory, great movie, but anyway).... We were just curious as to
why & how they can offer such a package.....................

We will be staying on Shelter Island. I am curious as to some drive times to some of the areas we will be visiting while there.
Say from
Shelter Island to La Jolla
Shelter Island to Children's Hospital
Shelter Island to Clairemont
Clairemont to Children's Hospital
Clairemont to downtown

I have been doing a lot of research on San Diego, and this web site has been great for information on all sorts of topics.
So, I would like to thank all of those who post responses to the questions that you get asked. Especially when you get asked
the same questions over & over & over........

HI!

Make the move!

My g/f is a travel RN and we came out here in Feb. It took 3 days for us to decide to stay for good and she accepted a staff position close to where we live in La Jolla so we can stay here.

The nurse shortage as you probably know, is all over the country. The reason for the lushness of the package is the cost of living...period.

Drive times are highly dependent on time of day. But, honestly, you can reach any major hospital from any of the communities in about 25 mins at the max. We live in La Jolla and Amy now commutes to HIllcrest. It has never take us more than 10 mins.

Make the move! You'll love it!

Cheers!

The max for all those places would be plus or minus 35mins.That's of it's raining,an there is an accident or something like that.So 25 like jbvincent said should sound right.
