my husband is considering taking a job at r.j. donovan prison. we are currently located in vista ca and would have to move down to the southern portion of the county. i'm just wondering if anyone knows of a decent area within a 45 min commute of the prison to live where we could rent a place for under 1500. a kid friendly area would be great since we have a young daughter. thank you.

Honestly, this is not a very good place to live anymore. I would rethink the move especially with kids. It is not a family friendly place, San Diego. The rent has increased in the past few months, the jobs are few and far between. The food? If you don't live in a rich area the food is not too good. Except if you only eat at Soup Plantation or a dependable chain restaurant. The area has a VERY quickly growing gap between the rich and poor, there is not much room for anything in between anymore. Unless you can afford live in Encinitas, that is still a wonderful area or La Jolla but honestly, really you might want to rethink the move. I have live her 10 years and am moving in the next few months..out of state. Wish you the best of luck.

Not family friendly? I have no idea what you are on about and if you don't like the restaurants here (and there are many, many good ones) then you are going to be so disappointed after you move to BFE.

Look at Chula Vista.
Plenty of safe areas to live.
Terra Nova is a nice area to live.
Should be plenty of places to rent for under 1500.
