Nashville is a great place to live. If it weren't for the weather and the bugs, we'd be living there too. Where else can you walk the bars downtown and find a musician playing in every corner. You may just find the next Taylor Swift or Toby Keith.

Be sure to take some country dance lessons. The lessons are free in most bars. You don't need to drink. Most good dancers don't. Two-steppin' is fun with a friend or just line-dance with a group. Country dancing is one thing I really miss about not living in the Midwest.

I decided on Nashville for many reasons.
1. I can make more money there due to the growth they are experiencing and cost of living is less
2. I have had such a HOT summer and several apartment problems that I am NOW really looking forward to having seasons again and cooling off yet not living under piles of snow like how Ohio gets (my old home)
3. Entertainment and "young people" things are all around!!!
4. Proximity to family
5. I am over beach living for a little while...I want to live in a different area just to have the experience, and all beach towns were beginning to look the same to me.

It came down to a really good gut feeling- no one I've met has ever said a single bad thing about Nashville and I just happened to find all these well paying jobs that I'm qualified for in a booming economy. A few people mentioned in passing, oh you would just LOVE Nashville!

I want to pay off my debt and get on with my life, in whatever way that means, and enjoy myself enough while doing it.

I'm not looking for the END ALL BE ALL PLACE. I'm looking for a new experience at a place that I can commit 2 years or so to, that has *enough* for me to enjoy along the way.

Time to make some moves!

I hope you find your place that let's you have the lifestyle you want!! My best friend is in Cleveland and takes really wonderful vacations- she says the same thing!
Good for you. Definitely a good choice.

I understand there are lakes everywhere, so surely there will be lake beaches galore if you want them. Congrats on the move!!

That's a pretty nice community. I think more than a few C-W singers live there, too.

Are you aware that Nashville is very hot and humid in the summer and lots of bugs! It rains quite often too? It sounds like a great place for you career wise but rents are pretty high.

Yes!! Dont have an issue with the seasonal humidity (unlike my coastal rentals...they actually have HVAC out there LOL), I am not stoked about the bugs but have been living with a termite infestation in San Diego and even saw a COCKROACH on my counter yesterday morning 6am....and cant wait for the rain!

I am not yet 30...the time for me to pick THE PERFECT PLACE to settle down forever is not here yet. I am looking for my NEXT place. The one where there is more opportunity and has good experiences I can enjoy. So I dont need all the boxes checked.

I have realized that humans (or at least me, specifically) are adaptable and can make pretty much anything work. I've made this sh*thole OB warzone apartment work for the last year....I made my other houses work with no insulation and teeny tiny living spaces in bay park for 3 years..i made it work in Ohio for 23 years... I can give Nashville a shot too

I'm looking forward to it!!

Cockroaches are a part of daily life in the Southeast, I saw them in Atlanta when I lived there, they love Pinestraw which is used heavily in the South as mulch. No matter how clean you are, they will get in your house or try to. When we lived in South Florida they got in the house no matter how much pest control I did on top of cleaning and vacuuming, they can slide through small voids and cracks. They love moisture and can live on grease stains, and also can live without their heads for up to a week. They need water to survive, but can live without food for a while.

Have only seen 1 roach since living here, it was outdoors no-where near my home. Biggest problem here so far has been ants, but compared to the East Coast or South Florida, not even close for bugs.

Along with roaches, ants and spiders will be bad, Nashville is a haven for the Brown Recluse Spider which are not to be messed with.

Recently a woman found 50 of them in her apartment in Brentwood

I'd recommend Demon WP insectide to spray around your home, it mixes with water and you can buy it online, works well but won't solve your bug problems 100%. It works inside and out, it's safe for pet's and kids after it dries. Just dont' use it around Aquatic pets, fish and aquatic species, it's deadly.

I’m happy for you, glad you’ve found a place to move to, and I’m sure you’ll do just fine. But I do hope you’ll visit first before making the move. I just visited Raleigh and really felt at home there right away! Had a regular rainstorm while I was there and it was awesome to see rain again! Course all this was before the recent hurricanes. I hear the mosquitoes there are monster now. But I’m trying not to let that deter me because I need to move out of SoCal. The people were really friendly and super helpful, I’m sure they’ll be the the same way in Nash.
